Burials at All Hallows

All Hallows, Woolbeding retains an active graveyard that is available for burials.

It is not necessary to have had your loved one’s funeral service at All Hallows for them to be buried here, but they do have to have had a significant connection with the church for this to be possible.

Information as to whom may be buried here, and the process for the subsequent introduction of a memorial stone are provided here and we invite you to contact our rector or one of our churchwardens if clarification might be helpful.

Who can be buried at All Hallows?

The most recent burial policy approved by the PCC of All Hallows, Woolbeding permits the following people to be buried within our graveyard:

Introducing Memorial Headstones at All Hallows

It is entirely fitting that, having interred your loved one at All Hallows, you would wish to commemorate their life with a suitable and fitting headstone.

In a Church of England graveyard, there are many differences to how a memorial is approved, and indeed what design of headstone is permitted when compared to a civic graveyard.

The authority to introduce any particular headstone rests with the Consistory Court and is essentially a legal process. The Chancellor of the Diocese of Chichester has issued (and periodically updates) a series of instructions as to what is permitted by way of the ‘General Directions’, which are provided below.

The incumbent of the parish has the authority to approve the introduction of a memorial if the proposed memorial is within these guidelines.

Where a family wish for a memorial to be introduced that is beyond the incumbent’s authority to approve the application is made directly to the chancellor, who will consider the application and make a decision accordingly.

We strongly recommend people considering a burial at All Hallows read and review the ‘Guide for the Bereaved’ published below before submitting an application using the form below:
